Braces

Orthodontic treatment involves aligning and correcting misaligned teeth, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing smile. Although childhood is typically the optimal period for such treatment, adults can also benefit from it at any age.

Smilelign

At My Dental Care, our team of skilled dentists is trained to perform orthodontic treatment using Smilelign.

To begin, we conduct a comprehensive assessment which includes examining your teeth and obtaining x-rays, photos, and moulds. Based on this evaluation, we can discuss potential treatment options with you. If Clear Braces are deemed appropriate for your situation, we can even provide you with a model showcasing the anticipated outcome of the treatment. If you approve of the proposed treatment plan, we can proceed accordingly. However, if Clear Braces are not suitable for your case, we offer the alternative of referring you to a Specialist Orthodontist who specializes in conventional fixed wire braces.

Clear Braces

We use a series of "Aligners" or "Moulds" to gently and discreetly straighten your teeth. These aligners are made from a strong, transparent plastic that is custom-molded for each individual. You will wear each set of aligners for two weeks before moving on to the next set. To achieve optimal results, it is recommended to wear the aligners for 22 to 23 hours per day. They can be easily taken out when eating, drinking hot beverages, brushing your teeth, and flossing. The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the issue; clear Aligners typically take around 6 to 9 months compared to "Fixed" wire braces which may require up to 2 years.

Initially, appliances might seem unfamiliar and induce unease. If the issue persists, consulting your dentist or orthodontist can lead to beneficial modifications. Following an adjustment, braces typically cause discomfort in the teeth; however, this sensation will subside over time.

Retainers

After the completion of treatment, there is a need to maintain the position of teeth for a certain period known as the 'retention' phase. Retainers, which are appliances, serve this purpose by holding recently aligned teeth in place while allowing surrounding gum and bone to settle. The type of retainer used may vary depending on the initial issue. However, it should be noted that even after completing retention, minor tooth adjustments can still occur naturally throughout one's lifetime.

Caring For My Brace And Teeth

It is important to maintain regular dental check-ups during orthodontic treatment. Additionally, it is essential to give your teeth and mouth extra attention by: 1. Thoroughly cleaning your teeth daily, including the spaces between them. 2. Reducing consumption of sugary foods and beverages. 3. Brushing your teeth before bed and at least once more throughout the day
