Bridges
Bridges provide an excellent alternative for individuals who prefer not to use dentures and have only a few missing teeth. Typically, bridges are crafted by affixing a false tooth in the middle, while crowning the adjacent teeth on each side of the gap. This fixed solution resembles crowns and is often composed of porcelain bonded to precious metals. In some cases, non-precious metals may be incorporated into the foundation to enhance durability.
Similar to crowns, we have a variety of Bridges available in different materials for you.
- A tooth-coloured, metal-free bridge which not only provides strength but also closely resembles the natural appearance of teeth.
- Porcelain fused to metal bridge, where a sturdy metal sub-structure is used for durability while the porcelain overlay ensures a natural and aesthetically pleasing look.
There are three main types of Bridge:
Fixed bridge
A fixed bridge consists of a replacement tooth connected to crowns on both sides of the gap, enabling it to replace multiple teeth if necessary.
Resin-bonded bridge or Maryland bridge
The substitute tooth, crafted from porcelain, is attached to metal wings that are bonded to the neighbouring teeth and kept out of sight.
Cantilever bridge
The replacement tooth is secured to nearby teeth on just one side of the gap.
Similar to a crown, this procedure typically involves two separate appointments. In the initial visit, your teeth will be prepared, impressions will be made, and a temporary bridge will be installed for aesthetic purposes until the next appointment. Approximately one week later, during the second visit, the temporary bridge is taken off and replaced with the final bridge. The final bridge is carefully adjusted and securely cemented into place only if both you and your dentist are satisfied with its fit and appearance.
