Fillings

There are various types of fillings available, which include silver amalgam, tooth-coloured composite fillings, gold inlays and onlays with a gold colour, and porcelain/ceramic inlays that match the natural colour of teeth.

Amalgam Fillings

Amalgam fillings, which have a silver hue, result from the combination of mercury and a silver alloy containing 50% mercury, 35% silver, and 15% tin, copper and other metals. These fillings are durable and resistant to wear and tear. Moreover, they offer an economical option as they can often endure for more than 10-12 years without needing replacement.

Typically, this type of filling is used for the back teeth. Prior to its placement, it is imperative to adequately prepare the region by eliminating any decay and molding the cavity to secure the filling firmly.

Composite Fillings

Although composite fillings are durable, they may not be as long-lasting as amalgam fillings. These tooth-coloured fillings consist of a resin base mixed with powdered glass quartz, silica, or other ceramic particles. Once the tooth is prepared, the filling is securely attached and then cured using a special light. We will carefully select a shade that matches your natural teeth; however, it's important to note that staining can occur over time.

Gold Inlays

Gold is a durable and resilient material that can withstand the test of time. It has the added advantage of not tarnishing and being incredibly strong, making it appropriate for use in various areas of the mouth. At My-Dental Care, our dentist will create an impression of the prepared cavity and send it to the lab for the technician to craft the inlay or onlay. While waiting for this process to be completed, a temporary filling will be inserted into the cavity. Once ready, the gold inlay or onlay will be securely attached using dental cement.

Porcelain Inlays

Porcelain inlays, created in a lab, require two dental appointments. Possessing remarkable aesthetic qualities, porcelain is durable and enduring while allowing customization to blend with your original tooth colour. Despite its high cost, this type of filling is worthwhile.

White Inlays

Tooth coloured fillings are composed of glass particles, synthetic resin, or contemporary ceramic materials. It is recommended to replace old fillings only when necessary, and in such cases, you can request a tooth-coloured replacement. The cost may vary depending on the size and type of white filling utilized as well as the duration required for treatment completion.
